Typical Linux Penguin babble....
1,2,and 4: dated 1999 and 2000. Can you look up the appeal results now too? And the 2004 story (#3) is the EU case, which is not anywhere nearly over yet. There is a lot of "talk" out there that the EU case is a very politically motivated case, and has little to do with actual facts. Case in point - the unbundled version that the EU required (i.e. win xp minus media player) hasn't sold in any numbers in europe. They're looking for handouts from American companies. It's a simple as that, quit making it into some other thing like MS is evil etc. None of their business practices were extraordinary. They did the same things their partners and their competitors did. The difference was, like stated earlier, in the 90's they didn't lobby with Washington the way Netscape and Real did. They lost market share not because MS had a better product (God forbid) but because they had operating systems on every PC. Never mind the fact that if this hadn't been the case in the first place, companies like Netscape and Real would have to spend even more development money to pay for 20 different OS versions rather than just two or three. That's poor sportsmanship, but of course all you have to do these days is find a techno-UN-savvy judge and you roll in the dough (btw, do you remember the stories of the judge still using a typewriter at that trial?). Here are the facts as I remember them: Netscape had all kinds of developmental problems with their product, and it got blasted in every review I read. I remember how it used to lock up about every ten minutes or less. Real had easily the blotchiest looking and slowest and most computer intensive video compression on the market. No wonder they lost the battle. They didn't catch up until they completely rewrote their codecs and broadband finally caught on everywhere to help boost their lousy quality. Why don't you pull up some reviews that show THAT information?
