We can't even trust Microsoft to patch its current versions of software
Microsoft says don't trust third-party patches. We can't even trust Microsoft to patch the current versions of its software. So what's the difference? There's no difference. Go ahead and patch away using whatever you find if you are still using older versions of Windows. Microsoft just wants people to buy new versions of Windows. If you are happy with your older version of Windows, then continue using it and get whatever support you can get from whomever you can get it from. Just tell Microsoft to stick it where the the moon don't shine.
