Well...
Firstly, the vulnerability was announced as for not just apple stuff. Yet, they made inflammatory (cigarette in the eye) attacks against Apple. Is it any surprise that things got edgy from then?

Add to that their evasiveness and pot stirring.

They from day one haven't been forgiving of Apple, so I'm not sure how you can come up with the bit about being less forgiving next time.

And please, the "popularity is why windows gets hacked so much" argument is still lame, and still wrong. Have you any idea how many attacks per day are made on minority high security systems (not windows based)? The answer is, many many more than people bother with messing with windows.
