I've had old dBASE IV compiled EXE's, *COMPLETE WITH DOS4GW MEMORY MANAGEMENT RUN UNDER LINUX* thanks to "dosbox", homepage http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/

The ultimate acheivement was to install Windows 3.1 (yes I have original floppies) on dosbox *UNDER LINUX* so that I could run Chessmaster 3000. The emulation is flawless... Chessmaster 3000 beats me mercilessly every time.

Dosbox is free, Open Source, and runs on X86 (including AMD) systems. There are ports for linux, *BSD, OS/2, and even Windows.

And if you want to go whole-hog, a VM (Virtual Machine) is another option.
