I hear you !
At the end of the day, ANYTHING can be construed and misconstrued by lawyers and politicians. The PATRIOT ACT is just a means to anoint George II absolute Monarch, and destroy the Democracy the US spent 200+ years building.

But you know, as much as these rich buggers play games and get involved in corporate intrigue, the net-net of this story is the PRESS wanting scoops, and GETTING them from an overzealous board member. Who KNOWS what his motivation was to drop info to reporters which compromised the competitive advantage HP held at any given time?

Bottom line, it is the fiduciary DUTY of the board to jealously guard the interests of the shareholders which they did.

HP outsourced the investigation to organizations who specialize in intelligence gathering. I suspect they outsource driver development to organizations who specialize in THAT !!

As much as the various children on this board believe that Mark Hurd and his minions walk the factory floors (as H&P used to) making sure all the screws are tightened on the oscilloscopes, the fact is the office of the CEO cannot afford to micromanage every aspect of a business the size of HP.
