Thus the reason I don't use HTML when reading email...
My email client (Calypso) is set to default to text view for all email. I also deny all receipts by default. If I very much trust the sender, I can click a button and view it in HTML. If I'm not sure, I look at the header first, etc. For the most part though, HTML is not that useful for basic email.

The other side benefit is that I get very little spam because when I do get spam, the dirtbags that sent it can't tell that I opened it.
