Politicians and Business Ignore the Only True Solution

If you focus on just one comment in the article, above, you will see why we are in an identity crisis. Javelin's Van Dyke said, "Financial institutions focus more on resolving problems after they occur rather than stopping them up front." Neither business nor the U.S. Congress will admit that the only way to halt identity theft is to pass federal legislation that gives consumers control over their names and personal data. At the same time, pay them any time their private information is used in any way.

No matter how much cooperation you get from banks or other business, they don't correct your credit report, and pay the necessary attorney's fees. According to the FTC, on average, victims spend $1,200 and 60 hours--over a week's work--cleaning up credit.
