is it the programmers fault? Why blame them for all of it.
Vendors rush to get new products to market so the income stream for investors is not interrupted. I have to wonder how many times in todays profit driven world programmers report problems and the acceptable risk of the hole causing end users problems is less than the cost to fix it since it does not have a direct impact on the bottom line as it becomes the someone elses problem. We need independent testing by the people finding the holes today and stiff penalties for the company developing the software paid directly to the users who are hurt. I wrote code at the machine and assembler levels for many years in the banking industry. I left the programming field when I worked for a company that would not allow me to correct code where there were provable mathematical errors discovered in testing because no end user had reported the errors. There is never enough time to do it right but there is always time to do it over in patches that only put band aids on the original problems.
