I Haven't Heard Such Reports

So I can't corroborate the claim that any passenger watched a flight being murdered.

It wouldn't be the first time. One woman was stabbed to death in New York right on the street with dozens of onlookers who took absolutely no action to intervene. Or the Rolling Stones' tragic 1970 concert in Altimont, CA.

Such complete abrogation of our personal responsibility is inexplicable. As a retired member of the US Armed Forces, I don't understand it.

I see it, however, as part of American character recently -- rebellion against authority and "anything goes, mind your own business, don't get involved."

Take sexual morals. How many people would tell someone if their lover or spouse was unfaithful? Very few. I know a young woman who found out her husband's infidelity from the gonorrhea that destroyed her uterus, destroyed her ovaries, and nearly killed her.

Somebody knew. Somebody kept "the code of silence." She nearly died and did lose her ability to bear children as a direct consequence.

Characters like Paladin in "Have Gun, Will Travel" are 1950s vintage. Now my wife and I see our celebrities are largely morally bankrupt anti-heroes.

We seem to have forgotten that we are all our brothers' and sisters' keeper.

As far as your comments, my company had a program manager on one of the flights. He was accompanied by his wife. They planned to spend time together in the evenings after his meetings.

I can't agree that they "deserved to die." I can't agree that any of the 9/11 victims "deserved to die." I can't imagine how the families and close friends of any of the 9/11 airline passengers would regard your comments.

I know that I myself find your perspective of innocent people "deserving to die" unspeakably repugnant and offensive.
