Not in the kernel ... yet? or Never?
They have not built any of these functions into the kernal - the OS (broadly defined) yes, but perhaps that is semantics.

OK, so perhaps its not there yet but MS has announced that they are moving IE into the Kernel for "performance" reasons. They certainly refactored IE to insure removing it breaks other OS features to ostensibly prove that it can't be removed. Nice, maybe they should have fixed the bugs before they made it a unremovable component?

Here's another question for ya ... if I use the new Win2k3 headless feature (like any experienced server jockie would) do I still need to have media player, Internet Exploder, and all their friends on the box? Does MS ship a version of Win2k3 without the bells and whistles?

Funny, after all these years they finally find it neccessary to remove all those easy to use features that supposedly made them the succes they are in order to ... um ... why was it they pulled out the GUI and bought terminal services and remote management type functionality from UNIX?

Do servers really work better when you can play minesweeper on em?
