Not my claim
My claim is that what is integrated into Windows is not apps, they are functionalities. Apps are something you get and install separately - these are not, thus they cannot be unbundled and still be the Windows sold by MS and still have the OS perform in the same way.

There is every logical reason to program these functions into the OS. They provide desired features by the users, provide a standard base of functionality for software developers and provide a base on which to build a richer computing experience. Could MS write an OS that is, say, modular and is not like the current Windows? Sure, but they chose the methodology they are using, that is their prerogatative. Your prerogative is to purchase it, or not.

So, you can remove anything you want from Linux. What's the point? I don't want to remove anything from my OS, you do. You choose yours, I'll choose mine.
