Well, let's see now, we have the Dr. bjrock official definition for operating systems. Could you direct me to your tome that fully describes the standards for your OS? Actually, what an OS quite depends on what the (in this case) vendor wants it to be and do. Apps are not integrated into Windows XP, functionalities are. Information access and display are, multimedia access and play are, networking is, graphical display is and other capabilities are. It all depends on what you want. If you want to drive a Model T, buy it and drive it and enjoy it and get out of it what you can. If you want something a bit more modern, buy it and get out of it what it provides. I don't see all that many Model Ts around today.

By the way, I have been running XP Pro for nearly 2 years and never had a problem. It is rock solid, I have broadband and the machine is on the net for 12 - 14 hours/day. I have never gotten a virus or trojan. I was also wondering what operating system today does not provide a built-in IP stack? Also, are you suggesting that IE, etc. are not integrated into Win2000?
