Even with non-proprietary software...
You get issues, and you will continue to get issues. This is why versioning exists. For the sole purpose of informing users that fixes, modifications and major overhauls have been done.

No software is perfect, but where I start to get iffy on it.. Is when you need a patch to patch a patch that patched the initial patch.

Windows is a good operating system. There is no doubt of it's user friendliness whatsoever.
