Spammers are thieves because...
Fortunately, the "good-old-days" of hours-based dialup Internet are just about finished, so for most of us, spammers aren't stealing our precious connection time any longer, but they're still stealing from us.

1. Spammers are stealing bandwidth. Somebody pays for the bandwidth that's used to send spam, and in the end it's you and me, in higher than necessary ISP charges.
2. Spammers are stealing server space. If ISPs didn't have to store spam on their mail servers, they could operate with far less storage. Once again, you and I are paying for it.
3. Again, spammers are stealing from our ISPs, and therefore from us, by forcing ISPs to incorporate elaborate spam-blocking schemes into their e-mail. Guess who ultimately pays for that protection.
4. Spammers are stealing from their more ethical competitors who do not spam, by gaining an unfair advertising advantage.
5. Spammers are stealing the time and effort that it takes us to either read or delete the crap.
6. Spammer and scammer sound almost the same, and in most cases mean the same thing. How much spam have you read lately that doesn't sound like somebody trying to make a quick buck at someone else's expense?

If anybody believes that spammers don't steal, I'd like to invite you to bid on the Brooklyn Bridge, which I currently have up for auction on eBay. Why, I guarantee you can pay the whole thing off with the first week's toll collections.

Dave
