The Micrsoft DRM was protecting a subscription model where as I-Tunes from Apple is a service that allow you buy the music and own it vs renting it.

So DRM hacks against subscription models are deadly to said model, a good reason not to do it if you ask me. So with I-Tunes songs a person can crack the DRM on song they bought and it's not big deal. But if a person cracks DRM on music they don't own a monthly fee to access then that is a problem.
