Not much progress on this issue
There hasn't been a tremendous amount of progress in combating phishing, as far as I can tell.

The key as I pointed out in this post back in 2004 (http://www.csoonline.com/opinion/comments/1120.html), is to shut down phishing accounts as soon as they are discovered.

In order to perpetrate a phishing attack, you must have a functioning email account and a functioning web page account. Without them, you can't commit the crime. So, while it may not be possible to prevent these frauds, they can be stopped if there is a coordinated and responsive effort between ISPs, web hosts, and law enforcement along with the affected companies.
