There was downloads and swapping long before DRM.
People used to rip music or images from various sources and put them on BBS?s and Usenet long before the idea of DRM. The days of the major label (which brought your favorite talentless commercial groups like New Kids on the Block and Spice Girls, both creations of the record labels) being the only source for bands have passed. These days, all you need (and quality of content depends on taste and production equipment) is a room with some equipment and some people. In order to get major distribution, you may need the labels, though that tends to put the musician into a state of indenture (to the labels).

You mentioned garage bands (I presume you meant things like the Beatles, Nirvana, and the other bands that got their start via actual talent and audience rather than record company profit algorithms) yet you appear to be out of touch with what actually sells. You may not like the types of music that sell but they do. The labels are becoming less relevant as the people who create the original content become more liberated via the availability of inexpensive high quality equipment, new distribution chanels and people like the artist formerly known as Prince (who holds an anti-label position).

In your music production career, what major band were you involved with? Since you have no applicable industry experience or knowledge of this sort of profession, you only come off as the loser that we all know you to be. You have no applicable basis in the fields as you are nobody and yet you take this position (along with kissing some companies a$$, which we expect you to do). This is what we expect for you, though? your credibility as anything but a little blowhard is about 0, zero, nada, zilch.

Care to try again?
