I'd say you have that backwards
People don't like DRM. Cracks exist for all DRM. People can bypass that DRM for the music they buy. If cracks didn't exist then all that DRM music would have no customers to buy it.

Basically end up with a what came first, the chicken or the egg.

In the end the key is to produce product people want to buy. To do that you need to produce a product that is superior to free downloads. DRM doesn't make a superior product so that kind of leaves the illegal free stuff as being more desireable.
