I'm confused
On one hand you apparently don?t trust the government not to pry unduly into the affairs of the citizens. But on the other hand trust them to not allow inter agency rivalries and personal axe grinding to interfere with their ability to run covert operations. Which is it, is the government a stand up group or a bunch of sleezes?

I on the other hand don?t trust the government at all. IMO the level of incompetence and pettiness displayed at virtually all levels of government combined with our modern communications abilities makes it impossible for the government to keep anything a secret for more than a few months.

In the ?bad old days? before cable TV and the internet it was possible for collusion between the government and network news to essentially bury an ?open secret? by simply not broadcasting ?undesirable? news. In today?s environment with Fox opposing CNN, with numerous talk radio hosts (each with their own axe to grind) and with literally every possible interest group there is blogging their side of every story; everything that the government does is an open secret. The only need our enemies have of foreign intelligence against our government is trying to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Don?t misunderstand, I like the current situation. Frankly that?s why I prefer Republicans in the Whitehouse those guys can?t fart without somebody reporting it as a national scandal. Everybody knows what their doing because 90% of the national media hates their guts and doesn?t miss a chance to air their dirty laundry.
