Microsoft need to fear no...
As far as installing Linux goes, I'll agree to a point. It has been a while since I have installed Linux, and each distribution has it's nice parts, and it's bothersome parts.

I am a UNIX expert, not a LINUX expert. I doubt I'll use LINUX as a desktop in the near future simply because I know where to expect problems with Windows et al, and not with Linux.

Basically, my complaint (I am not going to "speak" for anyone else) with Microsoft was that they marketed very well, but delivery was unpredictable. Basically, I adjusted by waiting for a product to mature at least two years (I have only now switched to XP for my desktop) before even thinking of relying on it.

With Linux, it's great strength - open software and all that - is also it's greatest weakness. Who in Linux development actually listens to "regular people" who only want to use something. IMHO there is too much attention to the Linux developer as "user" than to people who are absolutely not interested in why or how something works. I will never be able to get my wife to use Linux. It took two years to get her to switch to w2kp - because she was satisfied with w98. It was only when she started getting newer applications that didnt behave well on w98 that I reinstalled her computer with w2kp. fyi - my wife serves me as "model" for the standard user.

In short, I only need to look at my wife and children and know that Linux will not be their desktop soon, if ever. Microsoft has this families desktop - just not the servers. Those are UNIX (not Linux happy )
