MS Windows patches
About three years ago I started doing all the windows patches as they came out. By the end of the rist year, I noticed that all my patched machines were running slower and slower. At that point I decided to stop patcheing certain machines. In fact I went back and restore these macine to their original outof the box state and then applied my user software. Since our network is behind a fireware and we use anti virus software plus spam blockers I was not too worried about getting infected on the un-patched machines. After a couple of months I decided to stop patching the remaining machines. So far in the last two years I have had only three virus infections which occurred in machines that were not virus protected. Granted I still have users that get popups, but that is due to their ways of surfing the net. Other users do not get popups. I think this patch business is over blown. I service over 500 computer.
