You forget that the USA is NOT a democracy ...
It is often frustrating to me to listen to the rhetoric of so many individuals that blame democracy for the problems of the USA. However, so many (like those who previously responded this thread) erroneously label the government of the USA as democratic. Our government is, in fact, a form of constitutional republic. A reasonable definition of such a governing system can be found here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitutional_republic

The key points of the Wikipedia article are summed up as follows:

"Constitutional Republics are a deliberate attempt to diminish the threat of mobocracy thereby protecting minority groups from the tyranny of the majority. But it is also an attempt to protect the majority from the minority by placing limits on the power of government officials."

In contrast, the definition of a democracy is greatly varied as seen by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy
and a pure democracy has the tendency for "mobocracy," so that the minority voice is never heard.

I do not advocate that the republic form is ideal or perfect. As with any human endeavor, it is flawed; however, its inherit checks and balances make it the most attractive (an available) option for me to be governed.

One of the freedoms that we enjoy is that we can leave the country or stay and influence change if we don't agree with something.
