I love the Pig, Poke, Silk Purse post. Here is the thing. Poking at Accenture (Steve Ballmer still on the board and Accenture still rooted in Arther Andersen and still outsourcing US government Federal and State Contracts) - the picture is clear as scatt on the wall, can only control Web Services when they are written to Ballmer - IE Microsoft .Net - Standards.

For everyone else a web service must use WSDL - Web Service Description Language meaning that its functionality can be discovered and be known. The cry babies on security would have us believe that code knowledge should be secret. Naturally the abusive monopolist doesn't like this. Having said that recognize that most e-business use web service and XML for credit card verification.

It is specialized secret knowledge that keeps a consultancy feeding in the public troff and it is lnterface work that is most profitable to them.

Loosely coupled real web services not only can be secure but these kids in black shirts are already poking the porker consultancies out. The American Programmer is reborn as a loyal government in-country security cleared worker.
