Windows just works
I started computing recently, just at the very tail end of having to set jumpers and assign IRQ's. My first computer cost $250, used, had a 100 Meg hard drive, was a 486X2 with 24 megs of ram. It chugged along on Windows 95. I had AOL on dial up .....and I LOVED it! Very soon I got Win 98, an AMD 500 with 128 megs of ram a 2.5 gig Hd, an 8X CD burner, and cable (att@home.com). AND everything was plug and play. Computer shops were going out of business all over town. Because Windows just works. I'm still not state of the art. It's an Athlon 1.8 gig with two hard drives =to 80 gigs, 1gig of memory, Windows XP Pro, a 16X Combo DVD+-CDRW, a web cam. vid adapter with TV tuner. And EVERYTHING just works.
I wouldn't make such a big thing about it, except that I'm totally disgusted with hearing about all the glories of Linux. I allowed myself to get disgusted with MS's evil ways and decided to try out the glorious LINUX. Ubuntu, nope! Suse, FORGET IT! Freespire? Well kinda, if I don't want to use my printer, webcam or TV tuner. AND want to do a forum search everytime I want to install software or change a setting. I think maybe I LIKE Windows. Maybe they are doing something right. Linux just DOESN'T Work!!!!
