the issue is Windows having to fix a patch for multiple systems... again. The patch has been fixed at least twice and affects just about all versions of Microsoft Windows.
The patch you found first of all is not a Linux patch, it is a sub-system patch.
that should read first...
"Many users of the increasingly popular Ubuntu Linux distribution found themselves thrown back to mid-1990s on Tuesday, when a botched update to the graphical X Window subsystem brought them face-to-face with the command-line terminal."
Since this is not a specific Linux patch/problem that affects all Linux distros, you are incorrect. Mandriva, SLED, OpenSuSE, Red Hat, Fedora, Slackware, Debian too name a few are not affected. This link you provide is a distribution specific problem.
If you are a Linux user then get a clue and understand that a botched Linux patch would be at the kernel level. Anything else is at the distribution level and since Linux is essentially a KERNEL and a distribution is the KERNEL with applications and tools attached to it it's rare that a Kernel level patch borks all Linux systems and needs a re-work... like say Microsoft?!
What am I on about? Gee that's an easy one. I am on about the attitude corporations seem to have about OUR personal data THEY have collected so we can enjoy a service. I am on about how in the last year+ millions of people have had thier lives disrupted because someone somewhere dropped the ball, didn't follow the rules or generally got too lazy to take proper precautions or worse yet... decided to take a shortcut to meet a deadline... and in the end people that trusted them have to scramble to clean up the mess made.
Linux geek is a f***ing moron and in no way shape or form related. Read his posting style and the fact the idiot can't spell half the time or utilize proper English... then again that's about 80% of the people on this board.
Nobody got spanked no_ax... try again. - Posted by: Linux User 147560 Posted on: 08/30/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
