Unlikely but possible
SP2 for NT4 was well known for trashing servers. I know; I suffered. Agreed that this is somewhat different.

I have had O&O Defrag corrupt drives on a server once, and the very old Systemworks when running on NT4 did appear to work, but in fact built up a large amount of hidden files that eventually filled the drive. At one of my customers, Arcserve backup did exactly the same a few months ago and totally filled up a server with tiny files - millions of them, so it was impossible to even browse the drive to find out what was going on.

However, there have been a batch of bad Seagate SATA drives - I had 3 - a mirrored RAID and a hot spare that all failed within the first few weeks. Replacement drives bought whilst getting these RMA'd have also had some failures.

Thus I would agree that drives failing are more likely, and I can tell you that there is definitely a precedent.
