Since helping capture a pedophile with the worst level of child pornography in his possession, I can say encryption keys are far from the problem.

The police arrested and questioned the suspect but failed to seize any PC's, disks, or other materials from his home until months later. When they did, they found enormous amounts of deleted files, which were never brought to court because they were not seized in the first place.

Despite pleading innocent until 15 minutes before the trial started, when he pleaded guilty to 26 counts of making indecent images of children (downloading videos of babies being raped) he only got a 10 month sentence.

The courts didn't bother to inform any of the people involved that he was released after only 4 months and we had to find out, when a colleague met him face to face in the town centre.

The point here is, until the police act more effectively and the courts actually pass a REAL sentence on these criminals, what exactly is the POINT of a new law to gather more evidence?

Give you something else to ignore at trial, when you give the bad boy a slap on the wrist perhaps?
