- On security measures and common sense
-
There are a couple of major things wrong with the scenario.
First of all, WHY are government organizations still leaving laptops with sensitive data in VEHICLES? Be it locked or not, it is not hard for a determined thief to find a way into the vehicle. This is common sense.
Second, what security measures were being taken? It is already known that passwords are not a sufficient security measure... was this data encrypted? Backed up?
Government agencies should be employing technology like Remote Laptop Security (RLS), which allows the rightful owner of a lost or stolen laptop to deny access to sensitive files from any computer with an internet connection, keeping vital information secure even when the machine is missing.

The Office of Management and Budget Memorandum for increased security hasn't resulted in any major changes. - Posted by: milal@... Posted on: 08/14/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
