Vulnerability from 2 years ago?
"At least one programmer believed that the server had been compromised through a vulnerability in a data synchronization program called Rsync. The same flaw had been used to compromise a file server the Gentoo Linux Project used last December."

I'm not an expert in the field here, but is that considered a remote exploit? Oh, yeah, according to the following article it is.
http://ciac.llnl.gov/ciac/bulletins/m-035.shtml

Is this vulnerability which was used back in December not fixed _4_ months later? Actually, if that's the exploit that was used, it's been known for over 2 years. Huh.

For all of you that keep failing to recognize that software, no matter what OS, is inherently flawed, take notice. If a "clumsy" hack can work his/her way in on a very visable server possibly using an exploit that's been known for months, maybe years, then perhaps all of the world's woes aren't due to the Windows OS after all.

Could it be that it's primarily due to poor system maintenance and the overabundance of people with too much time of their hands trying to hack into everything?
