Yeah, that explains why Windows is such an unhackable fortress in the first place.

You're right, though, that the add-on security industry is a direct result of malware writers. However, one fact you didn't stop to think about is that malware writers are a direct result of the lack of security in Windows.

And actually, I CAN have it both ways. I'd very much like to see MS beef up security, but even if that happens, I'll still continue to depend on third-party tools. (This really isn't a slam on Microsoft. It's next to impossible to have such complicated - some call it 'bloated' - code be completely free of security issues. I'm glad I'm not tasked with it.)
