MS's patches are the result of the intertwining of their OS into applications (IE, OE, Office, etc) where if an OS part is compromised it takes the apps with it. Not a good model at all.

There are 20 this month, 10 last month, a few the month before, etc. You can see that MS has been patching quite a lot. And their software still makes Swiss Cheese look secure.

Apple patched 24, also to many other parts of the OS that are not so intertwined so you don't have the mess that is Windows. Apple also patched about 10 or so previously in the year.

I've not run the #'s, but I bet Apple has fewer patches than MS for 2006.

All software needs patches. It's just that MS software is so poorly written it needs the most of them. Which leads to the MS solution having the highest TCO (Cradle to grave including maintenance costs) of any platform.
