Getting hit by a virus through one of the many MS O/S holes will ALSO create much more of a headache than it is worth. Testing doesn't have to take that much time, especially if it is made a priority in order to get the holes plugged.

My recommendation was that at least the critical security patches be applied as quickly as possible, in which case the SP can be held off on. If not, this is like guarding your front door against the policeman, while leaving all the other doors and windows wide open for the criminals.

I think a lot of the paranoia surrounding service packs dates back to the NT days. Fortunately, those days are mostly gone.
