ActiveX and Firewall
Additionally, SP2 will switch on Windows XP's built-in firewall by default and provide better control over ActiveX scripts: "Automatic downloading of ActiveX controls that you don't know about and don't care about--we are going to make this much, much easier to control."

I don't know why they EVER allowed ActiveX controls to install executables without notifying the user first by default. But at least they're fixing that now (after how many years?).

Also it's good that they enable the firewall by default. But the problem I've always had with that firewall is that it's either fully on or fully off. Meaning if it's on, you can't share files even on your own LAN, and if you turn it off to share files, then you are completely unprotected. So you wind up needing a third party firewall anyway. I'll admit though, it's been a year since I've tried it, so they may have fixed that in a patch. But then again, they may not have either.
