A welcome move by Google - we'd like to help!
Well done Google. You guys are the gateway to the internet (both good and bad) and it makes sense for you to try and help clean up the mess.

We identify more than 2,000 new unique malicious objects every day. We also learn about 200,000 new software objects every day. 60% of our new users are infected prior to installing our product. More than 50% already use mainstream security products that have failed to detect a large number of significant spyware, root kit and trojan/worm infections.

In the first six months of 2006 we identified more than 600,000 unique URLs which resulted in malicious downloads. The list is growing by more than 100,000 new URLs per month.

We are openly willing to share our Bad URL list with Google to help this initiative.

One question for Google, shouldn't the Google Security Pack be based on the latest available security products not last year's. A lot of the current worms, rootkits and spyware are not detected or disinfected by the 2005 products featured in the pack. Many of the 2006 products struggle but are much stronger than the 2005 offerings.
