Practical jokes aside, this could really be a threat - you can sabotage a company by printing false information, or capture sensitive documents as they're being printed.

Personally, I think the solution is simple: Dumb down those devices again!

The only information it should be sending and receiving is the information required to print/scan/whatever the <ocument. The job of sending network packets around should be a secured computer, not the printer. Security should be the job of a professional, not the local Xerox repairman.
