The article from ArsTechnica says that it affects internal and external wireless, yet in the video it's only an external USB wireless. I think there's some discrepency between the articles and the video. Some more information is needed.
In any event, with that particular configuration, it appears to be possible to modify code as it talks to the wireless device, and take over a computer running Mac OS X. History of security or not, it should be addressed with concern. What other devices might be affected by a similar exploit?
The exploit, by the way, only works when you change the default settings of requring a password, to setting it to connect to any AP within range. Assuming you changed that setting, even before it connects to a wireless AP, OS X will tell you you're connecting to an Untrusted wireless network and ask if you want to continue.
