Licensing cost double
A good idea for most, but it has a few disadvantages. Firstly there is the obvious hardware overhead, you have to have more memory, disk space and CPU power. Secondly, we use VMWare at work for our developers to work on. However, it means we have to buy a new Windows license, evertime we create a new vm machine. So if a 'parent/expert user', were to build themselves a workstation to use, and then install VMWare or Virtual PC, then setup a workstation for a 'child/novice' it means 2x Windows licenses, 2x office, and any other software you might want to run.
You could get around this licensing by running Linux as the O/S, but then if you did this, you might as well just run Linux only, and setup the child/novice as a 2nd user, then forget the virtualisation altogether, as you wouldn't have the virus risks in the first place (OK, I mean you wouldn't have such a risk, you know what I mean).
