eWeek is Running Out of Stories
Hmmm, they really need something big to happen, they can't keep blowing up nothing articles like this much longer. Look, as many people here mentioned, there are ways to prevent this from happening. Another one is to run AV software that supports pattern matching. PC-Cillin 2006 does this. You give it the first few digits of all of your credit card numbers, SSN, etc., and it warns you every time any application tries to transmit that information over the network. Sure, some virus writer will start encrypting the data before transfer, but the AV companies will figure out a way to come back from that. The biggest thing is DON'T STORE A LOT OF MONEY IN YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT. Have a savings or secondary checking account, and transfer money to your primary checking when you need to pay bills, purchase online, etc. That way, if they get away with your crecking / debit info, they can't steal much, you can contest the charges, close the account and be ok.
