On Java Applications CFSD
One of the great things about 20 somethings is that they know most rules are rules to protect the entrenched establishment. Ask yourself why there are implied coding rules about avoiding the use of Applets.

Just wonder if in the absence of monopoly power Applets wouldn't shine not only over AJAX, and Active-X but also over Java applications, and "Foundation Bassed" applications

Java Applications have been a holding place for Java Applets is the theory I am advancing. In otherwords because of monopoly power used against the Netscape Browser, Java developers came up with Applications and "hot" mechanisms for downloading them which make them in effect their own browsers.

The following is an advancement in the state-of-the-art here lads. You may dismiss it as a mighetto-ism but none the less it is a salty:>) (take that with a grain) tidbit for those who will see the rise of the American Programmer within their career horizon - and I am one of those. So lets set sail for the next decade and a half.

It is a weak-at-most matter to take a Java Applet and convert it to an Application. (A day is often enough.) In fact you can take several Java Applets and using a card-layout make a nice tabbed Firefox like Application out of it. But even more interestingly you can take that Application, turn it back into an Applet and see the future of software design. The Church of the Future of Software Design (CFSD) is now open.

Lets take a spreadsheed applet, a word processing applet, a photo slide applet, a database using applet, a text to speach applet, a speach to text applet, put them in their own tabs and compare the Application version with the Java Applet Version. For fun lets call it the MySpace or Google Application/ Applet.

See that in Application form you might do away with any Graphical User Interface. You would nead to route your manuscript to a printer or TV set and that would need to be coded. It would not need to be coded if in Applet Form. In Applet form all the driver and auxiliary device support is provided by the browser and underlying operating system .

If this small example doesn't get you seaing, you need an attitude adjustment. See me at the Lat & Attitudes event at Fishermans Bay San Juans. Dog watch 4 pm. We will put down the guitars and start hyming the future of software design for there is much to sing about. For homework think about removing Applications from the pervasive computing device and the natural removal process done by and controled by browsers. Hint caching.
