Security risk
Transmitters, even RFID, are very easy to find. They say that they are usable out to 300 ft. That sounds just like WiFi. They did a TV special on WiFi security here in Seattle. A guy with a 2 foot diameter dish was detecting and reading specific WiFi sites from several miles away. You may need to be closer to USE WiFi, but you can detect if much farther away. With an old style satellite dish and a modern sensitive receiver, what kind of detection range will we have? 50 miles? There is a HUGE difference between useable range and detectable range. Encryption only keeps you from knowing what is in the pile of supplies.

The US military is a major industry. Some confusion is to be expected, but this sounds like the $1,000.00 toilet seats of 30 years ago, except that those toilet seats were not radio beacons. ?Hey Enemy. We are hiding over here.?

A barcode sounds MUCH safer with only two drawbacks. Too cheap and no ?Gee Whiz?.

Most of us strongly support the troops that give years or even whole careers to keep us safe. They get crippled or die for us. Please don?t p*ss that priceless gift away just so that the Halliburton executives running our country can buy new corporate jets for their buddies.

The ones that don?t support our troops put little radio beacons in their supplies and steal millions of dollars from them.
