I think that your concern over RFID security is valid (especially the "Active RFID" that the military is currently using), but I would hope that the military would be much better prepared to address that issue than WalMart. I think initially the only way to truly protect yourself as a consumer when stores implement this technology is to physically remove the device after the purchase. In the long run, I think this will dramatically improve the way that items are purchased, but it still has a long way to go because the cost is still way too high.
