Probably not an .exe
Firefox extensions are .xpi's -- actually just zip files with standardized content.

I find it interesting that the article states that the "Downloader-AXM Trojan" is required in order for the malicious extension to be installed, but nowhere does it tell us how the "Downloader-AXM Trojan" would get installed in the first place. Presumably through Outlook/Outlook Express or Internet Explorer. happy

The whole mess could be avoided by running Firefox on linux or any other non-Microsoft operating system.
