Fix old or new first?
I think Microsoft is probably spending more time finding flaws in Vista than XP code. Remember that SP 2 had a lot of security fixing, and that slowed Vista. So probably the same staff can work on only one or the other.

There are many fewer people, I suspect, making significant contributions to malware than people contributing to Windows security. The problem is, the malware writers have to find few vulnerabilities to be effective, while the guardians have to be perfect.

And, worse, good guys are not as inventive about being bad as bad guys. Things that would not occur to an honest person have made dishonest people rich.

This battle will continue as long as there are greed and maliciousness. For a while, at least.
