The security companies...
... would know whether newly discovered exploits attack vulnerabilities included in the most recent patch. Though it's impossible to say in that case whether the patch provided information about the vulnerability, or whether the malware had been prepatred and was released to coincide with the patch.

Though waiting for a remedy to be released before distributing the malware does not seem to me the most sensible consistent strategy.
