I think
that the idea is that people, or IT depts, will be busy testing the
new patches, etc and that the new nasty will slip through
undetected. Then the bad guys can try to get the info they want
and sneak away with it; possibly undetected

The author was talking about industrial espionage. That's
different than just releasing a virus for the "fun" of it.
