Patch Tuesday--let the attacks begin
More hoopla over nothing. People are aware of the internet threats nowadays and they won't open attachments unless specifically told to do so. For the examples you gave, it had a very minor impact if any at all so there is no need to worry over nothing. Microsoft will be made aware of the threat and create patches promptly after doing a full investigation.

Its not like you have to go each application's website, check version numbers, download new code and compile it, go through the daunting task of uninstalling the old software and installing the new software every day. The monthly patch thing was put in place for easier patch management. This was what the customers wanted and it works very well. Just one time a month you can expect the updates. Simple as that.
