The words secure and Microsoft should never
be in the same sentence, unless you are talking about how it LACKS it.

I could say that M$ has no security but then the M$ lovefest crowd would call me a M$ bashing moron.

That being said I will compare M$ security to locking the doors on a 1972 Chevy Impala (sorry chevrolet..) Sure, the ordinary idiot that doesn't steal cars can't get into it but someone determined holding a coat hanger can pop that lock in less than 3 minutes easy.

Even though 99.9% of the people are not popping the M$ locks on a regular basis the fact remains that a small percentage are, no one can dispute that fact: Refrence XP critical updates. (I quit counting at 100)

So if and when the magic Vista master key is released and someone with bad intentions uses it to crash or corrupt thousands or even millions of PC's at the same time who is responsible/liable? First reaction is the guy that rekeased maliciously but then are we are we talking about the poor coder that saw the hole the size of a small country in the network stack and shared it with other coders?

I don't know who's shoulders to place the blame but I can tell you according to the EULA for XP its NOT MICROSOFT, printed in black and white, and no one can dispute that either!
(they tell you a few dozen times!)
