Why did they attend?
Probably because the information exchange is considered worthwhile. The participating companies might choose not to attend in coming years, but this time they accepted.

Your point is valid, but give the attendees credit for intelligence.


By the way, one reason Microsoft might want such an NDA is if the company was working on an idea and it happened to appear in conversation. That could leave vulnerability to suit later.

The IT business is now run to a large extent by lawyers, unfortunately, isn't it?!
