Do you want the government in charge of software design?
I know I don't and that's what you seem to be suggesting. I'd a lot rather have a free market decide what security level is necessary in an operating rather that the usually ignorant and one-size-fits-all court decision or law. You might think it's a great idea for them to go after Microsoft, but remember, what goes around, comes around.

For years, the market decided that having a lot of security on a desktop operating system wasn't necessary. However, this is changing and people are beginning to demand more in this area. Because Microsoft hasn't responded in a particularly reliable and customer sensitive way, this has opened the door for alternatives even when it comes to long time, loyal, customers (for example, I'm a big Microsoft fan but I'm using Firefox more and more often for web browsing). If Microsoft doesn't respond better than they have been, they'll continue to loose market share.
