You mean the ribbon thingy that only is present in Word/Excel/PowerPoint but is lacking in the Outlook client?

Microsoft didn't invent that. Novell did. Well over a year ago when it released GroupWise 7.0 - it had the ribbon toolbar (called the Nav Bar) in the GroupWise Windows client.

Microsoft simply copied them. But I find it weird they didn't put it into Outlook...

oh yeah, Microsoft copied the Home View for GroupWise and put it into Outlook as well:
